AREVA wins US dry storage contracts

AREVA TN has been awarded contracts to supply dry used fuel storage equipment for the Davis Besse, Beaver Valley and Limerick nuclear power plants in the United States.

The two contracts have a combined value of over $70 million, says AREVA TN.

As part of long-term contract with First Energy Nuclear Operating Company (FENOC), AREVA TN will provide dry used fuel storage equipment to the Davis Besse and Beaver Valley nuclear power plants, located in Ohio and Pennsylvania, respectively.

AREVA TN will also manage the fuel loading campaigns at both plants, which it says are scheduled to begin in 2017.

This contract marks the first order for AREVA's next-generation NUHOMS® system which offers a higher capacity and enhanced performance, AREVA said.

A separate contract with Exelon covers the delivery of NUHOMS® 61BTH dry shielded canisters and horizontal storage modules to the Limerick boiling water reactor station, located about 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia.

An AREVA team is due to begin installing the storage modules in 2015, while the NUHOMS® systems are scheduled for delivery in 2016 and 2017.to support Limerick's dry fuel loading schedule.

AREVA TN is a division of AREVA that specialises in systems for used fuel and radioactive waste management, as well as and nuclear transportation.
