Areva regains contract for operation of French repository

30 April 2012

The French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (Andra) has renewed its contract with Areva for the operation of the Aube low and intermediate level waste storage centre in Eastern France for at least three years. The scope of the contract includes the processing, the conditioning and the storage of the waste.

Areva has been operating the Aube facility for the last 20-years and under the new contract there is the possibility for further extension to 2017.

The Areva bid, through its subsidiary STMI, beat five other companies to win the contract. Andra emphasized the competitiveness of the Areva offer, and awarded the group with the highest technical score.
