Approval for Honeymoon

1 January 2002

The Australian government has given the go-ahead for Southern Cross Resources to mine uranium from the company's Honeymoon operation in the Frome Basin of South Australia. Southern Cross expects commercial in-situ leach production to start late this year, eventually reaching 900 tonnes U308 equivalent per year.

Honeymoon will be Australia's fourth operational uranium mine after Ranger (operated by Energy Resources of Australia), Olympic Dam (Western Mining Corporation) and Beverley (Heathgate Resources). A further uranium mine is planned at Jabiluka near Ranger.
