Angra II aims at December startup

27 August 1999

Brazil Angra II, Brazil’s second nuclear power plant, should be running at full power by May next year, according to Kleber Ribiero Consenza, the plant operations superintendent.

“We expect to start at the beginning or middle of December when we will put the fuel in the core,” he told Reuters. “We expect by April or May next year we’ll be running at 100% power with about 1300MWe.” Construction of the plant began in 1976, but it has been dogged by financial difficulties.
