AEM-Technologies approved as a supplier for Chinese NPPs

4 July 2019

Russia’s AEM-Technologies (part of state nuclear corporation Rosatom’s engineering division - Atomenergomash) has been registered as a manufacturer of civilian nuclear equipment with China’s National Nuclear Security Authority (NNSA), Atomenergomash announced on 3 July.

The registration gives the company the right to produce equipment for the Chinese market and allows AEM-Technologies to become a supplier of the key components of the nuclear island for units  7 and  8 of the Tianwan nuclear plant in Jiangsu province and units 3 and 4 of Xudabao NPP in Liaoning province.

The decision was made following an analysis of application documentation, as well as audits by Chinese experts at three AEM-technologies sites: in St. Petersburg, Petrozavodsk and Volgodonsk.

Russia and China signed the general contract for construction of the four units at Tianwan and Xudabao in March. All are to have generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors. The start-up of Xudabao 3 is scheduled for 2027and Xudabao 4 for 2028. Tianwan 7 is scheduled for start-up in 2026 and Tianwan 8 in 2027.
