AECL wins Chinese order

23 October 2006

Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd (AECL) has been awarded a C$12 million ($10.7 million), three-year contract to supply China's Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company (TQNPC) with engineering services and equipment for the construction of a MACSTOR 400 spent fuel dry storage system at the Qinshan CANDU nuclear power site.

The contract will allow TQNPC and the Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research Institute, TQNPC's engineering subcontractor, to construct the first of approximately 10 storage modules. The project will take about three years to complete.

MACSTOR provides passively safe storage for CANDU fuel once it has been used in the reactor and cooled in the spent fuel bay.
