Adamov pleads not guilty

26 January 2007

Former minister of nuclear power for Russia Yevgeny Adamov has plead not guilty to charges of fraud and abuse of office following accusations that he had misappropriated $9 million given to Russia by the US for nuclear safety projects.

The ex-minister was arrested in Switzerland in May 2005 at the request of the United States, where authorities attempted to extradite him. Ultimately, Adamov was extradited to Russia early last year to face the charges.

The much-delayed case continues.
