A new awards programme recognizes excellence in nuclear power education and training.

The nuclear industry is changing. Many senior experts who worked in the golden age of civil nuclear power in the 1970s and 1980s are now retiring. The industry as a whole needs the next generation of recruits: "The future operators are not us, but young people," says Jacques Regaldo, chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. Second, an industry that demands a culture of continuous improvement-as promoted by the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), among others-must continue to spread knowledge and best practice. Training for professionals could play an important part in these initiatives.

NEI magazine's education and training awards aim to raise awareness of those programmes that bring young people into the industry, and that help maintain the skills of existing workers. The awards are open to the entire civil nuclear industry, from front-end fuel cycle to generation to radwaste management to supply chain.

We have split the training awards into six categories, each with different judging criteria.

  • Apprenticeship of the year
  • Industry skills programme of the year
  • Recruitment campaign of the year
  • Training course of the year (1 yr or more)
  • Training course of the year (less than 1 yr)
  • Workplace/continuous professional development training course of the year

Our expert panel of judges will choose the best training programmes in the industry.
